Saudade

Genre:

Brazilian Jazz-Choro,Bossa,Tango, Samba, Cape Verdean Morna

Band Bio:

Saudade, (pronounced sowDaajee), started out as a duo. Dan Golden and Bob Gusch focused on the Brazilian choro, the true improvisational jazz of Brazil dating from the 19th century.

Blake Minnerly joined on pandeiro, the tamborine-like hand drum played in choro bands. He had roots in Brazil and could also sing in Portuguese. Saudade added bossa, tango and samba to it's play list. Lenore Gusch entered the picture adding percussion and clarinet on select songs.

As the band evolve, we were lucky to find Debo Orlofsky, an experienced vocalist around town. She had been rehearsing Brazilian tunes for another band that went south and could sing in Portuguese also. Well Blake was too over extended with his other projects and Lenore is about to move to New York City so in comes drummer Jefferson Voorhees who also has a Brazilian connection somewhere in his past. He sets down a solid groove for the band.

Saudade is now adding Michael Grimes on bass to give the band a bottom. Saudade is the only band in the Southwest performing choro as well a Cape Verdean morna.
