The
Problem With Music - The
A & R person is the first person to make contact with
the band, and as such is the first person to promise them
the moon. Who better to promise them the moon than an idealistic
young turk who expects to be calling the shots in a few years,
and who has had no previous experience with a big record company.
Hell, he's as naive as the band he's duping. When he tells
them no one will interfere in their creative process, he probably
even believes it.
The
Music Festivals - Every
fool in music wants a shot at 'getting signed', 'being discovered',
or given that non-existent 'free million dollars' this Industry
is supposed to have floating around.
Onstage
Professionalism - So
your band has been practicing together for a while, and things
are sounding pretty good. You've landed that first gig, and
have been rehearsing in earnest. Besides practicing your songs
over and over, what else can you do to make sure the show
is a success?
The
Music Quiz -
If
you hear a song on the radio that you like, do you need to
obtain the permission of the song's copyright owner before
you can record your own version of that song?
The
Business Plan - Since
no one has a business plan. I thought I would start one. Maybe
some of the information could be used by some of you to develop
your own.
Artist
Press Kits - Artist
Press Kits or Artist Promo Paks are folders that contain everything
about the band or musician that are sent to music promoters,
A&R reps, bookers, etc. When your ready to start giggin'
, follow up that initial phone call by sending your Artist
Press Kit.
I
know what you're thinking, how do you put this together?
